3 Jennifer's Sailing report
End of Audi Winter Series - Cadenza Many Cadenza crew sailing in the CYC Audi Winter Series are now wondering what they will do with their empty Sundays given that the season ended last weekend. The wet weather gear had a good workout during the final races of the season. The crew has learned a lot about sailing, racing and having fun over the season. The increased level of teamwork and confidence resulted in securing second over the line in one of the last races.
Some of the things we learn include:
- Sailing big boats like the 50 foot Cadenza can be hard work - especially when the wind changes and we have to change headsails and spinnakers on a regular basis throughout a race;
- How to rescue a man overboard although, unlike last year, we were grateful that we didn't have to put it into a real life exercise; and
- How NOT to flake a headsail on a jetty or leave a coiled brace unsecured on deck.
The girls on board did a great job steering on the final "ladies day" which was followed by a party for Nigel's birthday. Thanks to Gunnar, Terry, Ian, Donald and Damien for their great instructing, coaching and general patience. All of us now cannot wait until the start of The Summer Series, hoping to crew in the twilight or Saturday races. It's a great way to learn more sailing skills and make new friends
4. Email from Mel in Croatia
Best kept secret in town Terry, Vickie, and gang - I think your organization holds the key that opens the door for anyone wanting to see the great places of the world like coastal cities and towns on the med or the remote pacific islands like the Isle of Pines etc. If you can teach me, anyone can walk through that door and enjoy the very finest things in life that travel to these thousands of year old townships can bring. Having just concluded a 2 week charter around the Croatian Islands and enjoying the region on how it was meant to be seen and that is sailing into old fortified townships from the sea. You actually feel the culture and experience the friendship and eat the local delights. I can say nothing in my lifetime has come anywhere close to this experience and I have experienced much.
Your team Terry has given me the technical skills experience and knowledge to sail these areas with ease. I think my problem now is settling back into work or maybe I might just tell my business partners to stuff it as I am off again maybe Turkey. There is no substitute than a nice 45ft cruising yacht to bus, train, car, bike or walking, just let the wind take you there. So I hope many more people ask you to show them in to the world of yacht cruising. Very best Mel & family
