Crew Register Guidelines
Crew on the Harbour
Most owners race their yachts in Club Races and require crew with good spinnaker knowledge. This register is available to our Spinnaker course graduates and crew with spinnaker experience.
Our local Clubs, the CYCA and RANSA have mainly spinnaker races and occasionally non - spinnaker races which include the short haul race and Wednesday or Friday twilight races.
Crew Offshore
Offshore sailing can be dangerous in the event of bad weather. Crew should be prepared, have good knowledge, have appropiate wet weather gear and safety equipment.
Courses completed should include:
Offshore courses - RYA Day Skipper practical, Bareboat Skipper, Offshore Racing Crew.
Theory Courses: Marine Radio, ISAF Safety & Sea Survival and Senior First Aid.
All crew should have insurance and be members of Yachting NSW Crew Club (required under YA Racing Rules rule 55).
Crew Insurance
Students who get crew positions on non sailing school vessels are not covered by sailing school Insurance.
We strongly recommend that before you start crewing that you apply for Insurance for crewing. It’s easy to apply and good value, go to a Yacht Club and ask reception for the Yachting NSW Crew Club Membership form. Many Owners and Skippers now ask for your YA membership Card to ensure that you are covered.
