4. Offshore Seals
Not the football team - On Saturday Terry and Offshore yachtmaster Gunnar Tuisk headed offshore on the big Beneteau 47 in a strong breeze with storm sails, tri sail and storm jib for the C7 offshore crew course to Pittwater. On the return, a light nor- easter provided superb sailing conditions, dolphins under the bow and a giant seal was seen flopping around off long reef.

6. Deep Water movie tickets 6pm Sunday 7th October 07
Thanks to our friend Marc from Hopscotch we have a number of free tickets for our PSS students to see this famous sailing movie.
Deep Water is the stunning true story of the fateful voyage of Donald Crowhurst, an amateur yachtsman who enters the most daring nautical challenge ever - the very first solo, non-stop, round-the-world boat race. For your chance to attend an exclusive preview screening of the highly anticipated release of Deep Water, at the Palace Chauvel Cinema, corner of Oatley Rd and Oxford St in Paddington at 6pm on Sunday 6th October, simply RSVP to rsvp@hopscotchfilms.com.au with "PACIFIC SAILING." in the subject heading. Winners will be notified, hurry as tickets are limited.
Set against the backdrop of the turbulent sixties, Deep Water is the stunning and thoroughly absorbing true journey of Donald Crowhurst, a 36-year-old father of four, free thinking electronics inventor and Sunday sailor. Crowhurst enters the daring nautical race described as one of the last century's most extraordinary stories on the high seas - the Sunday Times Golden Globe - the very first solo, non-stop, round-the-world race. This inaugural race was dubbed 'The Everest of the Seas' and sparked world-wide media attention. Crowhurst is driven to compete in the newest trimaran boat and secures finance from a local businessman, however the deal is conditional upon him completing the voyage and should he fail Crowhurst
must buy back the boat. The other competitors included Frenchman Bernard Moitessier who was in the lead but rather than collecting the prize, opted to continue on around the world again in order to save his soul; and Robin Knox-Johnston, a merchant seaman who professed to have entered simply because he did not want a Frenchman to win. Once at sea Crowhurst's start is depressingly slow and communications are intermittent, however he soon starts to radio through a series of increasing record-breaking daily distances. Crowhurst becomes an unlikely hero and the British public hold their breath daring to believe the underdog can win. As the world awaits on tenterhooks for this extraordinary man to cross the finish line and sail into port to a hero's welcome, the jaw-dropping truth is revealed. Deep
Water features interviews with Crowhurst's family and friends, journalists
from the time and the sailors whose lives were irrevocably changed by the
race. View the trailer at:

7. Conga Dance /Sailing Holidays
The Bunny hop was a conga type dance. Participants held the hip of the person in front of them and moved left from right with their feet, as they hopped to the music ... a bit like dancing in the Caribbean. What are you doing in 2008?
