Subject: SOB and the trip
Dear Terry,
well the SOB is getting a real workout on this trip. So far I have been able to keep it as a totally independent unit with the baby GPS into the USB port. That has allowed me to remain independent from all the other gear on the boat. There are several features that are surely the best I have come across and a couple that I feel I am either using incorrectly or could maybe do with a small touch up. Overall it is simply the best I have used. Thankyou. I am doing a log of the journey following Flinders charts all the way and the journey is wonderful. I started a blog and by now it seems there are literally hundreds of people following along. It’s quite amazing the power of the web. I can only update the site whenever I have high speed BB so the updates come in chunks. The anchorage in Weipa is a bit how’s your father, but the is HSBB here so a large chunk is in the process. I will be giving SOB the big wrap on here so you might like to pass it on to your buddy sometime. When you talk to him, can you tell him that with UGRIB, if I pick it up on the G3 hub at high speed, it will overlay the chart by dragging and dropping as he had said. If however I pick it up on the much much slower Fleet 33 (NERA) it refuses to darg and drop and open. I assume that’s data bits related, but of he has an idea for a solution I would be thankful. Tell him this time I have read that manual!
Also I would dearly love to retain the weather overlay even after I have dragged and dropped for if I turn off the computer or SOB I loose it. As I say this I guess I could some how duplicate the file on the desk top B4 overlaying it and get around that problem.
In any event please tell him that for what it’s worth, I think the system is brilliant. Best regards John Woodruff
